Step 4: Staying an Ex

You've worked REALLY hard to get step 4 of this Quit Smoking Last piece of the puzzleSupport Program. Congratulations! Now it's time to work through some additional pieces make sure that you stay an ex-smoker. Since stress is usually the cause of a relapse, we're going to spend some more time on this subject. First you need to be able to recognize the symptoms of stress in your body. We all emotionally react to stress differently and our bodies react differently too.

Once you've been able to identify the symptoms of stress, now it's time for more tips on how to manage stress in a healthy way. Before, you may have resorted to smoking to deal with stress. Now, you need to learn new ways of handling stress.

Another great stress reducer, and a tool to help you manage your weight while quitting smoking is, exercise. Be sure to include it as a main strategy for helping you quit smoking.

It's also important to include regular and timely rewards in your quit smoking support program. You're working very hard to stay an ex-smoker and you should definitely reward your hard work!

You have worked hard to reach this point. You have probably learned many things about yourself along the way and changed your life, in some cases, significantly. This is a new beginning for you as an ex-smoker and the possibilities are endless. One of the best things you can do now is to "pay it forward" and support others in their quitting attempts.
